1988 944 Turbo Engine life

Which is a better way to drive in order to save your engine and turbo life? I noticed that I get best gas milage and the turbo does not kick if I cruise at 3000 rpm. However, I have always been told lower rev = longer life. But, when I shift up and lower the rpm the turbo is constantly on (above .8 bar) Isn't that extra engine wear from the turbo's compression and on the turbo itself? I just want to do what is best for my baby.
