1988 944 Turbo oil pressure guage fluctuates rapidly

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model(924/944/968): 944 Turbo; Year: 1988; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 119600;

My oil pressure guage recently began to fluctuate rapidly on an intermittent basis. Normally, the guage reads a steady 3 bar at idle and about 4.5 bar when driving. Now, at idle, the needle fluctuates a small amount around the 3 bar mark, and oscillates rapidly between the 4 and 5 bar marks while driving. More specifically, the needle bounces very rapidly between the 4 and 5 bar marks as I accelerate up to about 3000 rpm and then holds steady near the 5 bar mark at higher rpm's. I noticed that when cruising, the needle will occasionally return to normal, holding steady at 4.5 bar or so, but then for no apparent reason and without any change in engine rpm the needle will begin bouncing from 4 to 5 again. Once this condition began, the needle was bouncing most of the time, returning to the "normal" position only occasionally. This problem was first noticed when pulling away from a stop where the car sat at idle for about 1 minute. During the previous hour or so of steady cruising at 60 mph in 5th gear the guage held steady at 4.5 bar, with no sign of fluctuation. After a short stop for a flagger at a construction site, I accelerated to about 25 mph in 2nd gear while passing through the construction zone (200 yards or so). After clearing the construction zone, I accelerated to 65 mph and I noticed the guage bouncing.
