1988 944 Turbo S Electric window relay

Vehicle Information: Model(924/944/968): 944 Turbo S; Year: 1988; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 76,000;

My window winder relay is getting way too hot - have tried another one does the same. Any ideas? Is this a short in the window winder circuits somewhere?Bill, I saw this question and had exactly the same problem, replaced the relay and door switch, didn't fix the probelm. Finally tried to trace the short with a meter, turns out when the gnomes in Stuttgart built the car they nicked the wiring from the dome light in the drivers side A-pillar with the trim screws, overtime went from being intermetent to a full time problem as the wire insulation was complete worn through by the screw (dome light was on all the time - had to keep switched off- could open and close the windows all the time, battery constantly ran down, etc). I pulled the trim piece off ran a new piece of wire to the door switch and everything works like it should, even the battery stays charged between drives. It took some time to find this out (I couldn't imaging that the cause went back to the original assembly on a car 18 years old) is definitely worth looking at.
