1989 911 Carrera Exhaust upgrades

Vehicle Information: Model: 911; Year: 1989; Body Type: Targa; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3,2; Total Mileage: 79K;

I have decided to modify my stock exhaust system to obtain a fuller exhaust note, lighter throttle responce and add a bit of "cheap" hp to my car. My original plan was to add the SSI system (or similar equal header type) and a sporty muffler(Dansk or Manta). BA's book suggests that this is the way to go. Although, lately I have been told that I can get almost the same success in a cat bypass pipe and a single inlet sport muffler --for a lot less money. I dont mind spending the money if its worth it, but now I am wondering. This goes against all my earlier school of thought, but the earth is not square either. I have not seen any compairings of the two, but manufactures claims seem to be similar in both aspects.
