1989 930 Convertible top

Body

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 Turbo; Year: 1989; Body Type: Convertible; Total Mileage: 13,150;

The original top, headliner, and rear window on my 89 Turbo cab is in excellent condition with one exception. The stitching in some areas seems to have deteriorated and allowed the seams to come loose. My question is can the top be removed and resewn with good results or would it be better to replace it? This is totally unrelated, but I was attempting to remove the cosmoline from the undercarriage and read a question from another member with a 89 who can't remove the cosmoline with any product known to man. I have removed cosmoline from 1986 and 1987 cars with ease but I'm encountering extreme difficulty getting it off the 89. Maybe there is something unique to the 89 cars. Thanks for your help.
