1990 944 S2 Chain tensioner

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model(924/944/968): 944; Year: 1990; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 85,000;

I have read the articles available on replacing the chain tensioner on a 944-S2. My question is the rubbing block is available for $25 and the whole unit cost $325. The unit contains springs and a check valve which I assume is of decent quality. The only fragle part is the rubbing block which can wear through. What is the problem of just replacing the rubbing block? The car has never seen track use and I don't feel is abused while being driven.
