1990 944 S2 Intermittent failure to run

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model(924/944/968): 944 S2; Year: 1990; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 95000;

The car will be running strong and then lose power, no real response to the pedal, runs rough (bucks and coughs, no backfire), and may quit. Can restart and then quits. Pump the pedal runs rough and then returns to normal. Also from time to time will not start from cold. Have replaced the distrib cap, ignition wires, plugs, fuel filter, DME relay (had original), diagnostic of computer indicated bad O2 sensor and intermittent failure of knock sensor, replaced. Problem still exists. Fuel pump seems sound as car has no power loss under acceleration. After above repairs, with continuing problem read the computer diagnostics, no faults detected or memorized. Mass flow sensor is next on the list but wanted other ideas before coughing up the $475. No relationship to weather conditions, temp, rain, etc.
