1991 944S2 Limited slip differential

Vehicle Information: Model(924/944/968): 944S2; Year: 1991; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 102K;

I have a 1991 944S2 with an open differential. I recently acquired an unused factory ZF differential (p/n 951-332-053-03) second hand. It had been sitting in a garage for ~5 years.My car has 102K miles and as far as I know the transaxle has never been taken out. In its current condition, 1st through 3rd are a slow to engage when the box is cold but they are fine once it warms up.I would like to install the differential myself as a "project". I'm inexperienced in this kind of work but I've been purchasing tools, factory manuals and so on in preparation.My question is what advice can you give to someone about to undertake this project and what are the issues I should consider?For example:If I just replace the differential (leaving the syncros alone), will I have to do the ring & pinion backlash?The 944S2 LSD p/n is 951-332-053-05. Will the 951-332-053-03 that I have work in its place (note that the -05 is listed as a replacement for the -03 part in PET)?Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.
