1991 964 Burning Oil

Vehicle Information: Year: 1991; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 55,000;

I had the valve cover gaskets replaced about 2 months ago because of an oil leak. The car started burning oil on start-up after the service, which it never did before. I have only been able to drive the car every 2-3 weeks since the service and the smoking at start-up is progressively getting worse.I brought the car back to the service department and they initially though there was too much oil in the car, but this did not stop the smoking. I have 2 questions:First, could too much oil in the car be related to oil burning on start-up and could too much oil cause damage to the engine?Second, if the replacement of the valve cover gaskets was not done correctly, could this also be related to the oil burning?
