1991 964 C4 Matching Tires, sidewall bubble

Wheels and Tires

Vehicle Information: Year: 1991; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 96,000;

After a couple of cold (single digit nights and yes mine is a garage queen driven short distances about once a week) my right passenger tire was loosing air around the rim. I took it to a national tire store for them to break down and re-seal. Afterwards they pointed out a large bubble on the sidewall which they claimed was caused by hitting a pot-hole. I would have remebered hitting one plus there was no damage to the rim as my evidence. My questions; 1) could the tire store have damaged the tire? I took the tire in with 36psi and there was no bubble present at the time. 2)I now have to replace the tire anyway and since they're having trouble finding the same tire (Pirelli 7000) what similiar tire would work well with my rears (same P7000's)? 3) IS it possible to damage the tire without damaging the rims? By the way there's about 18,000 miles on the tires. Thanks
