1993 964 dreaded Valve Guide Problem

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model: RS America; Year: 1993; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 51000;

I took my new RS America to her first Autocross, by the end of the day, she was smoking during idle periods, smoking has progresively gotten worse in the past couple of days, oil usage has also increased significantly. Idle, acceleration, everything else is fine, if I run the engine at approx 1200 rpm, smoke from exhaust stops. I suspect valve guides or valve guide seals as she only smokes at idle when manifold vacuum is high. I've scheduled her to be taken down and have the valve guides and seals replaced by a guy I really trust. Here's the question: What if anything do you suggest I have done while the engine is torn down to increase reliability and performance without breaking the bank? She will still need to pass Calif smog, but a few more hp would be nice. Thanks, your information is much appreciated.Region: SDRCity: San DiegoTotal Mileage: 51000Car Use: Combination Street and Track
