1995 993 Electric engine cooling blower did not shut off

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model: 993; Year: 1995; Body Type: Cabriolet; Total Mileage: 48,000;

After a Sunday drive and parking the the car in the garage I noticed the engine cooling blower start about three minutes later. I've noted this in the past but this time the blower did not shut off. After about an hour I attempted to start the car but the the blower had drawn the battery down to the point where the motor wouldn't turn over. The blower was still running so I disconnected it's wiring. I'm guessing the blower's temperature sensor is bad and needs to be replaced. How difficult is this to do? Is there someting elese that could also cause the blower not to shut down? If I decide to have the work done by a shop should I drive the car with the blower disconnected? Thanks
