1995 993 secondary air injectors, cleaning necessary?

Vehicle Information: Model: 993/911; Year: 1995; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 46,000;

I understand that the air injectors become "coked up" and in the past you have recommended that we have them unclogged each 30,000 miles[I did.] Well, I thought that I understood, but now I hear a school of thought that says my 1995 911 has the OBD1 system which apparently will not detect and turn on a dash warning light and so fail Smog Test. So, then why bother doing the expensive treatment? But the air injectors do something, and California requires smog testing. If I were to stop cleaning the ports will my car fail testing in the future? Then, I've been penny-wise and pound foolish; with no way back, having earned an expensive valve job. Thanks for your excellent help. Always good to communicate with you.
