1995 993 Smell from heater

Heating and Ventilation

Vehicle Information: Year: 1995; Body Type: Cabriolet; Total Mileage: 39000;

I have recently purchased a Carrera2 Cabriolet. As the weather is now getting a little cooler, I have started to use the heater a little. When I first turn up the heat, there is an unpleasant smell (no smoke) inside the car. Sort of reminds me of the smell of your furnace the first time you turn it on in the winter. I thought it just might be dirt or other build up from not being used, but it seems to be there initially (at least) every time I use the heater. I have used it maybe 5 times now.In the old days (I lived up north) you had to worry about heat exchangers rusting, and having exhaust leaks etc. This doesn't really smell like exhaust but is unpleasant non the less. Any ideas?
