1995/96 993 Wiring Harness Recall (W301)

Electrical and Electronic

Vehicle Information: Year: 1995; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 34,566;

I am very disappointed that you, the Club's 993 technical advocate, have failed to provide some PCA-wide awareness of the recall notice, W301, issued November 1, 2002, regarding the inspection and/or replacement of Model 993 engine wiring harnesses, known to be problematic for several years. This recall affects over 11,500 cars in the U.S. and Canada, and, you should not be silent about it. Model year VINs for both 1995 and 1996 are listed, including Turbos and non-Turbos. This recall is significant as some of these cars are over eight years old and many have changed hands numerous times. I'm frankly surprised that Porsche did anything after such a long time of knowing about but basically ignoring the problem. My 993 was built in August of 1994 and has a harness part number, 993.607.016.05, which is on the recall notice's replacement list. That, plus living in Arizona, makes the issue critical to me and perhaps to several other 993 owners living in the hotter areas of North America as well. Speak up and out, Joel!
