1996-1998 993 - plugged air injection sysytem

Mr. Reiser, until I read your answers to certain questions posed on 5/24/03, 7/9/04, 8/3/04, etc. I was ready to buy a 1997-1998 C4S. I am both happy and dissapointed at what I learned, having never read about it elsewhere. As I am not too technical please indicate if my understanding is accurate. (1) Due to the onboard diagnostics II and the fact that it usually fails itself due to (among other potential problems) clogged secondary air passages (air injection ports), certain cars do not pass air emission tests rendering one unable to legally operate it until a $6,000+ top-end engine rebuild is accomplished. (2) Another alternative would be to buy a , say, 12,000 mile (or less) car and immediately have it checked for excessive carbon buildup by a reputable mechanic who will not play a shell game. If buildup is found, and if it has not yet hardened, one might be fortunate enough to find such a mechanic to clean the passageways with solvent and compressed air.(3) One should periodically (each 15,000 miles) have the solvent/compressed air maintenance done to avoid a more costly solution.(4) Lastly, your suggestion that one purchase a Cerified Pre-Owned car is noteworthy yet I believe it rare that one would find a Certifed Pre-Owned 1997-1998 C4S at a Porsche dealer from first-hand experience. Please indicate if my understanding is accurate, correct me if it is not, and kindly offer any new information on this or other 993 problems not yet dealt with in your very fine technical advice section.
