1996 993 appropriate oil

Engine

Vehicle Information: Year: 1996; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 63000;

I was reading in your tech section recently and saw a discussion regarding the hydraulic valve lifters that the 993 engines have (1993 vs. 1996 911; 11/10/2004). It was suggested that these engines require 0-40 Mobile 1 oil in order to properly run the hydraulics of the valve lifters. The owner's manual suggests 10w-40, 10w-50, or 15w-50 Mobile 1, in my climate range (mostly over 50 degrees F). My understanding is that 0w-40 is "thicker" than 10w- or 15w- 50 oil. I have been using 15w-50 in my car (1996 993 with 63000 miles,used mostly as a daily driver, but used 4 to 6 times a year for DE events). Am I misunderstanding the viscosity classification, and do I need to use 0w-40 instead of 15w-50? Does the viscosity requirement change from dialy driver to DE driver? City: MobileState: AL
