I'm writing again as I just returned from a track weekend at VIR where I ran my stock Bridgestone S-02s. I wrote earler (about two wweeks ago) asking for your advice concerning conflicting informion I've received about track tires for my car. Because I value your input I have delayed purchasing new rubber until I hear from you. Once again, here's my situation: Based on my desire to improve my cars performance on the track (for HPDE events) and answers posted by you concerning wheel upgrades and fit, I purchased a set of 996 Turbo hollow-spoke take offs from Wheel Enhancement. Again, based on some of your responses I was considering purchase of N-Rated(?), Pirelli P-Zero Corsas (225/40/18 and 295/30/18) for the track (also, because I have to drive to and from the track on my track tire, I had limited my consideration to DOT approved "track" tires). When I approached our local (Maryland) performance tire dealer about ordering the Pirelli Corsas, he did a hard sell for Toyo RA-1s, which I know from a lot of friends who use them are a great tire. My problem is that they don't come in 295/30/18s and the nearest size is 275/35/18 which the dealer says is "wider than the size designation indicates" and will be fine on my new 11" wheels. I'm not comfortable going a step down in width from my 285 S-02s, even though I realize that the narrower RA-1s will out-perform the Bridgestones. Do you have any advice on how to proceed.
