1996 993 Key remote

Electrical and Electronic

Vehicle Information: Model: 993; Year: 1996; Body Type: Cabriolet; Total Mileage: 62000;

I am the second owner of a '96 993. The car came with 2 keys, one of which had the key remote programmed to unlock/lock the doors and allow the ignition to work. The other wasn't.I have tried to program the second key and have had no success. The dealer could not program it either. He even tried a new key in case my second key was bad -no success. He came to the conclusion that the computer had blocked the key programming capabilities and would have to be replaced for the key to work. This seems like an extreme and expensive option ($800.00), but I need to have a backup key. Do you know of a way to either allow the programming of the key or override the feature that prevents the ignition from starting?One additional point of information: when I bought the car, everything was original except that it has an after market radio. I don't think this is relevant, but with Porsche you never know.I really need help on this.
