1996 C4S oil type and oil gauge

Vehicle Information: Model: 993, 911; Year: 1996; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 29,300;

Hi Joel,I have had my car for about 1.5 years. I do not do any of my own maintenance on this car. I had my oil changed about a year ago at a reputable European car shop, they used Castrol Syntec 5w30. I do not see it as an "approved" oil weight based on my search on this site for oils. I have driven it for about 2000 miles and have not had to add any oil. Is the 5w30 oil used OK?Also when driving, I understand the oil level gauge is not accurate. However, it is basically pegged on the low red zone, even driving on the freeway in cruise control. On a long stop light, the oil gauge does come up to about the 4 o'clock. After driving for about 40 minutes, and then letting it idle a little, the level on the gauge is a little below horizontal about 3.5 o'clock, when I check the dipstick, the level is centered on the dipstick "twisted" portion or normal I am assuming. Is this "normal".Thanks.
