1997 911 oil level gauge

Engine

Vehicle Information: Year: 1997; Body Type: Targa; Total Mileage: 18400;

My question is regarding the oil level gauge. When the engine is at normal operating temperature and oil level is between marks on the dipstick should the needle ever go in the lower red area. My last 911 was a 1986 and the needle NEVER went in the red unless I needed to add some oil. Even when operating at lower rpm's it seems the needle wants to drift down, in the red zone. When I stop or take my foot off the accelerator the needle moves up in the normal area.I do recall test driving other 95-97 911's and recall this situation. Can you confirm this is normal or should vehicle be serviced.The oil pressure gauge indicates good oil pressure and appears to be operating normally.
