1997 993 Oil Recommendations

Vehicle Information: Model: 993; Year: 1997; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 23,000;

I have been using Mobil 1 15W50 since my 993 was new, this is what the dealer told me was the original fill and recommended for our climate. My owners manual allows for 15W50 in my climate and calls for SH specification. With the new SM specification, the word around is that the anti-wear zinc and phosphorous (ZDDP) additive levels have been significantly reduced and the valve train and cams will be subject to rapid wear. A call to Mobil 1's technical representative yielded a claim that the 15W50 has not had the ZDDP level reduced and it remains as with the original formulation at a nominal 1200 ppm, and usually is closer to 1300+ ppm. The specification chart on Mobil's website makes the same claim giving some backup to the verbal assurance. Is the Mobil 1 15W50 with SM specification safe to use in my 993? Does it still provide the same anti-wear protection as the previous SH, SJ and SL specification oils? By the way, the Mobil oil chart on their website claims 1000 ppm for the 0W40 grade SM specification oil. Thanks for the advice, my service shop and I would like to know for sure.
