1997 993 Targa Roof

Vehicle Information: Model: 911; Year: 1997; Body Type: Targa; Total Mileage: 47500;

Joel,Thanks for all you great advice.This time I thought i would share a success story with you.My targa roof had become worn and old,it regularly stuck and rattled like mad, so I took the car to the main dealer who said I would need to replace the cables and bushings ($1300 for parts) and to replace those they would need to remove the roof section from the body. The total quote was over $10,000....crazy for a car worth about $35k. I questioned the removal of the roof and was told it had to be done that way.I did not want to pay that amount but wanted to have the benefit of the Targa, thats why I chose one in the first place. I talked to a Porsche trained mechanic who thought he could do the job without removing the roof, it was the first time he had done one but was confident it could be done.He had done excellent work for me before so I left the car with him whilst I was on a weeks vacation.The result an excellent job, with just the oicst [cost?] of the parts and 15 hours labour, a considerable saving on the main dealers price!I am happy to recomend this alternative for anyone who is also having cable/bushing issues.ThanksMark
