Heating and Ventilation

Vehicle Information: Model: Carerra 4 996; Year: 1999; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 59000;

Lost cooling on A/C dealer and the Porsche said it is the evaporator. They wanted $1,400 for the evap coil (just the coil), and about 10 hrs (close to $1,000 to install). I put the job on hold. The freon was re-charged about 2 yrs ago and it took a while to need freon. Also, I looked on line and found evap coils from $150 to $300 max. I could not even find one for $1,400. I found the entire A/C box on pelican parts for $723. Also, can I pull the evap from the hood side of the car like the heater core or does the dash, etc.. need to come out? Any advice on the coil and the job? I am taking to another shop for a 2nd opinion. Thanks.
