1999 996 frozen caliper?

Vehicle Information: Model: 996; Year: 1999; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 100000;

My left front brake pads are wearing nearly twice as fast as the right front. It's time to change the lefts, but the right has plenty of pad left. What would cause this? It has been suggested to me that this may indicate a frozen caliper on the left. If so, what should I expect to find when I change the pads to confirm this? If it is frozen, is the only option to replace the caliper? If there are any other possible causes of one sided rapid wear, what are they and how can I confirm the cause.BTW, all stock brakes, and the rears are wearing evenly and at a normal rate. Thanks.
