1999 996 Leaking Coolant reservior and cleaning the radiator areas

Engine

Vehicle Information: Year: 1999; Body Type: Cabriolet; Total Mileage: 46000;

After driving somewhat aggressive for 30 minutes @ 85+F I arrived home and noticed anti-freeze leaking from the rear left engine area. The next morning I checked the anti-freeze level and it was OK, I drove it a couple days and noticed the temp. needle straight up ( a little past 180). I brought the car to the dealer on another issue and had them check the leak. They said there was a small crack in the coolant reservoir and suggested replacing it and cleaning out the radiator areas in the front for $800-900. I'd love to do the work myself, but need some instructions or diagrams to know where to start. Is this a project a novice should try? Thanks in advance for your help.
