1999 996 MAF

Vehicle Information: Model: 996; Year: 1999; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 102000;

i recently cleaned up the engine bay on my track only 996. changed the belt and went for a test drive. came back after the drive and opened the hood to check fluid levels. to my surprise, i forgot to hook up the MAF cable. the engine ran completely fine. no hesitation, no power loss, it did not go into limp mode. i went out for another drive, this time spirited, and same thing happened. i put the MAF cable back on and felt no difference in response or power.Is this OK? does it go into a default mapping? is this a bad idea?thx,carlos
