1999 996 Oil Fouling

(I previously wrote asking about warranty work turn-around time expectations).This is highly coincidental and intriguing - perhaps you could help shed some light on possible causes of this, noting that, based on my recent experience with this dealer, I may not hear from them any time soon after I return the car to them on Monday.Friday, I took delivery of the '99 C4 that had been in the shop for 5 weeks. I had a few minor warranty repairs done as well as an oil seal on the rear main, a seal on the variocam on driver's side bank (not sure if you call this the left or right bank) of the engine (I would traditionally think right bank), an oil separator, a slave unit and a coolant reservoir.Today (Saturday), I went on a 50 mile trip (one way), only to find out that at about 20 miles into the trip (getting 30.4 MPG at about 62 MPH w/ A/C on), the check engine light began to flash, a plug began to miss, then the light stayed on and the plug became a dead miss.I stopped the car, waited a few minutes, gave it a general visual fly-by, checked the oil (which was a bit lower than it was when I picked the car up about 30 miles prior, but still in comfort range), then restarted it after about 15 minutes. The missing cylinder was back in production at that time with no check engine light. All was fine again.About 15-20 miles later, the check engine light came on again, the cylinder started missing again... Same thing. Ultimately, I got home "between lights" and had to add 1/2 quart of oil. This problem did not occur prior to the recent repairs. Obviously, I intend to take this up with the dealer, but was hoping that you had some ideas besides the possibility of a tragedy. PS: The mechanic supposedly followed "the procedure" for replacing the variocam seal (by rotating the engine so that the cam tower is facing up, but he did not drain any/all of the oil, which resulted in some smoke problems and oil fouling problems upon first crank, but they claimed that "the smoke cleared"...) The mechanic also stated that he spun the engine around a few times with the plugs out in order to clear out any oil residue that may have accumulated anywhere. I guess one good question is: Did he come up with that idea proactively, or was there a hydrostatic lock that gave him this hint? HMMM. What do you think?
