1999 996 unsprung weight

Wheels and Tires

Vehicle Information: Model: 996; Year: 1999; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 47000;

I find very little information on unsprung weight tradeoffs. It seems there should be a formula of what unsprung weight does to a car''s performance. i.e. If you reduced the unsprung weight by 40 pounds what would the benefits be? (probably need to know total unsprung weight) The reverse would be interested for the folks that go out and add 60-80 pounds of wheels and the consequences on braking and handling. It would appear that tradeoff may not be significant or the "tire rack" folks would be using this appoach to market light weight "high performance & high mileage wheels".
