2000 911 Carrera CEL

Fuel System

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 Carrera; Year: 2000; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 30k;

Hi Joel.My CEL came on while waiting for a green light after having driven about 15 miles at highway speeds. As the nearest Porsche dealer is about 65 miles from where I live, I asked a local garage to read the fault codes. Unfortunately I can't remember the exact code but it indicated a "leak" in the fuel tank evaporator system according to the technician.Can you describe for me how this system works and what it consists of. I take it it's more than just a carbon canister and some hoses.While I am at it, I like to comment on the 12/19/2006 note concerning white smoke on restarting a '02 Carrera during DE use. I too have experienced this. It doesn't happen frequently nor consistently. When it does happen, it occurs when I drive from the track quickly to where I park and shut the engine off (so I can check tire pressures). It never happened when I drove around the parking lot at slow speeds for a minute or so before turning the engine off. Also, my car doesn't use oil during street driving but uses one or two pints during a DE when I consistently drive in the upper rpm range.
