2000 911 Carrera Oil Level and Max Capacity- CORRECTED

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model: 996; Year: 2000; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 19900;

The oil was changed in my new (to me) 2000 Carrera by the dealer about 1K miles ago and I checked the gauge and dipstick each a few times in the two weeks that I've owned the car. Each time, the oil level was right in the middle of lower and upper limits.After filling up for the first time, the lowest bar on the oil level gauge flashed for about a minute (versus the whole gauge flashing) and oil just showed on the tip of the dipstick after letting sit for 10 minutes to drain down.So I added half a quart --- and now both methods show overfull! All bars are lit on the gauge and the oil level is up to the dimple that's just past the upper limit -- regardless of whether the care has sat overnight or for just 10 minutes after being driven at operating temp.Any insight is appreciated, but assuming that the dealer put the correct amount of oil and the car didn't burn or leak any, is half a quart extra going to cause problems? Should I get some drained out or are the readings acceptable?Thanks again.
