2000 911 second gear shifter problem

Transmission and Clutch

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 ; Year: 2000; Body Type: Cabriolet; Total Mileage: 59,000;

I've owned a 911 for around 8 months and on a totally random basis the transmission will grind on an up or down shift into second gear. I can drive days with no problem and then I will get a grind. It never pops out of gear and this is the only gear with the problem. I took the car to a Porsche specialist and they drove it and said nothing was wrong with the transmission as it did not grind when they did the test drive. I think there might be a problem with the shifter or linkage. Are there bushings that wear out or an alignment problem? I've thought about purchasing a short shifter and installing it to see if this will help. Your advice is appreciated.
