2000 996 C4 Screech at start-up Part II

Vehicle Information: Model: 996 C4 Cab; Year: 2000; Body Type: Cabriolet; Total Mileage: 42,000;

Follow up to screech at start-up question. Power steering fluid was low. I topped it up (to the top of the "cold" hash mark area) with a small amount of Pentosin CHF-11S as suggested. After the engine is up to running temperature, the fluid is now about 1/3 of the way below the "hot" line (should it be all the way to the line?). Still getting the screech/brief whir sound, just after the engine turns over (has already started), but only if the engine is cold. Once it is warmed up, if I stop and re-start, there is no unusual sound. How would I determine if the power steering pump might be damaged (the steering feels fine)? Could it be something else (e.g., related to the ABS pump equalizing pressure, or a belt rubbing)? I would appreciate your suggestions re: next steps. Thanks for your help.
