2000 996 rear spoiler operation

Vehicle Information: Model: 996 Carrera ; Year: 2000; Body Type: Cabriolet; Total Mileage: 55,560;

I noticed over the weekend that the rear spoiler on my car, when using the manual switch, seems to have a hard time retracting, especially on one side, like it is sticking, or a gear is slipping. It appears that there are plastic guides under the rear deck lid, which house the supports (also plastic?) for the spoiler. My guess is that the plastic guides sliding against plastic supports is not a slick surface, especially in the summer months. Can this area somehow be lubricated? Or could something else be the cause? Thanks for your input.
