2000 996 whirring noise on shutdown

Vehicle Information: Model: 996; Year: 2000; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 37000;
After turning engine off AFTER driving I hear a whirring noise for a short while possibly 5 or 6 seconds. Any thoughts on this. If I restart engine and shut it down no noise. This only happens immediatly after driving.
