2001 911 clutch pedal engagement

Transmission and Clutch

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 carrera 2; Year: 2001; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 47300;

I recently bought an '01 911 Carrera 2 with 46,500 miles on it (my very first Porsche). A friend who has an '07 Cayman S drove it, and immediately commented on how different my clutch felt compared with his Cayman. I just took my 911 to a dealer here in the Buffalo area for an ignition switch replacement, and they suggested that the clutch is wearing and will need to be replaced in the future. The" wear" symptom that I notice is that the clutch wants to engage rather late - that is, further from the floor than I would like. I'm having a difficult time adjusting to this "late" engagement. So, I'm wondering if I should just go ahead with a new clutch assembly, and is driving it currently causing undo wear on the flywheel? Money IS an object, yet I don't want to keep flogging a sick horse.Carfax records indicate that I am the 5th owner of this car.Thanks in advance for your knowledge and expertise.Jeff
