Re the question on the failure of the key fob to remotely operate the door locks, on my 2001 996 the remote lock/unlock and certain other systems go into standby if the car is not started or the systems used for a period of five days. This is to eliminate the small drain on the battery that keeps these systems in standby. When this happens, the key must be used in the lock or ignition to reactive them. Since the person asking the question was only using the car once per week, it is possible that this is the problem. It is explained in my owners manual. If the battery is low in the key, the LED light will come on continuously to indicate that the battery must be replaced and both keys reset to the ignition code.BTW, I tried to send this question in earlier, but I don't think it went through. Sorry if I'm duplicating.BTW2, as a subscriber to the 996 etc Tech Q&A's, I am continually amazed by the depth of knowledge you (and those who help out) display in dealing with some very complex issues. Keep up the good work.
