2001 996 Oil Filler Tube

Vehicle Information: Model: 996; Year: 2001; Body Type: Cabriolet; Total Mileage: 73000;

I recently removed the air filter housing to check the air filter on my car. In the process, I pulled the solid portion of the oil filler tube out of the flexible tubing. In the process of trying to reinstall the solid portion back into the flexible portion, I ripped the flexible tubing (tore off about 1in). I was able to partially reinsert the solid portion, but need to redo it so none of the solid portion is outside the flexible tube. Is there a "trick" to doing this right? Also, is there a problem with a shortened flex tube as long as it still fits in the clip on the air filter housing?
