2002 996 Difficulty cold starting

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model: 996; Year: 2002; Body Type: Targa; Total Mileage: 44000;

A few days ago I took the Porsche in for its 45K service and reported a starting issue. When the engine is cold started (> 4 hrs.) the RPM goes up to about 500rpm and lingers there. If I press the accelerator the engine stalls and if I do not touch the gas the engine eventually sputters to a stop. I then restart the car and it properly starts after the second or third attempt. No signs of smoke and the other than that the automobile runs 'normal'. The mechanics at the dealer were unable to find anything and the problem persists. I reviewed the technical engine Q./A. and was not able to find anything similar for the 996 model. Joel, I would be interested in what your opinion is. Also, the results on my previous submission of the accidently cracked inside Targa glass top on 6/26/06 was positive. It was handled as a warranty issue and the glass roof panel was replaced from the inside. I was quite satisfied with Porsche warranty coverage.Thank you, Alan
