2002 996 Engine temperature

Vehicle Information: Model: 996; Year: 2002; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 61000;

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about having to change the resistors in the radiator fan circuit. Since then, the cooling system has worked as expected (knock on wood). However, there is still an un-answered question of how did the resistors go bad. I wouldn't expect resistors to be a wear-out item. All of us have electronic items that have lasted for many years. I'm guessing that something happened to drive the resistance way up. I'm courious if anyone has any idea what it takes to fail a pair of resistors.
