2002 996 Engine temperature

Vehicle Information: Model: 996; Year: 2002; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 61000;

The rise in temp to straight up noon on the gage seems to be due to resistors in the radiator fan circuit going bad, which caused the fans to only turn-ON at high temp stage and not turn-ON at low temp stage.I'm curious, in your experience do these resistors typically die at some age? Or, would you expect an event or condition on the input or output ends of the resistors to cause them to fail? At this time everything in the circuit appears to checkout.Side note; the failure occurred on a rainy day (coincidence?). At $80 per resistor, I hope this doesn't happen on very many rainy days.
