2002 996 Noisy Windshield Replacement REVISED

Body

Vehicle Information: Model: 996; Year: 2002; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 22000 miles;

Hello Joel,I have to replace the windshield on my 2002 996 coupe. One body shop that has extensive Porsche experience told me that there had been a number of 996s that developed creaks or other noises around the windshield. This shop claimed that it was very difficult to mount a 996 windshield and get it the right depth in the opening due to the way the mounting kit seats the glass. Apparently they have replaced a number of these with 997 windshields with good success because a different style of mounting kit is used.Have you ever heard of this issue? Does using a 997 windshield make sense?Also, an unrelated issue regarding the rear wiper. The rear wiper will swing up to 90 degrees from the window to allow cleaning of the glass. When in this position the wiper blade can swing freely. Upon returning the wiper arm to the glass the blade can swing out and leave an UGLY gouge on the paintwork beside the window. VERY DUMB design!!!! I have taken a small black zip tie and fastened it to the wiper arm and blade so as to prevent the blade from swinging freely but left it loose enough so as not interfere with wiper operation. Others may want to take this preventive measure. Otherwise the fix is to refinish the entire quarter panel.Keep up the great work. Those of us that live in areas remote from dealers and others supports particular appreciate your assistance.Thank you
