2002 996 Rear Main Seal Issue

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model: 996; Year: 2002; Body Type: Cabriolet; Total Mileage: 20,000;

I've owned three 993s in the past and I am very interested in buying a 2002 or newer 996 cabriolet for many reasons. There is one very big concern I have about the 996 and that is the rear main seal problem. I have read so many stories just in your tech section about problems with the RMS of these cars, as well as in Excellence magazine where the author said he thought the occurence of this problem was between 50 and 100%. My first question is if I should pursue trying to find a 996 without this RSM problem and the second is how do I go about finding a car that doesn't have it? Doesn't this affect the resale of the 996 or do few people buying these cars pay attention to a site like the PCA tech site? My last question is, if you were me, would you go find another low mileage 993? Thanks for your input.
