2002 Boxster S Whine From Transmission

Transmission

Vehicle Information: Model (Boxster, Boxster S,Cayman, Cayman S): Boxster S; Year: 2002; Engine (type, size, modifications): 6 Cyl, 198.98 cu in/3179 cm3, no mods; Total Mileage: 32000; Transmission: Manual;

I have a whine in the transmission that starts at about 30mph and gradually gets worse as the car speeds up. The noise first appeared after the dealer chaneged out one of the rear axles and replaced the tires over a year ago. I have taken the car in to the same dealer on three occasions and have been told there was no trouble, the last time we checked for tire cupping and wheel bearing problems and found none. They also told me they chacked the transmission fluid level. and because they found no metal chips, said there were no trans problems. Later I jacked the car up myself and confirmed the noise was coming from the transaxle. From my experience on working with other cars, this noise sounds as though a ring and pinion are out of adjustment and require shims. I have not been able to participate in any club events, as I'm concerned I could further damage whatever is wrong. Any advice?
