2003 996 Alternator

Electrical and Electronic

Vehicle Information: Year: 2003; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 17,500;

My alternator sucked in and ate up most of a shop cloth and in the process bent all the cooling vanes in the alternator almost flat and clogged up the end of the alternator with shop cloth fluff. I'm wasn't comfortable trying to claim as a warranty issue, didn't want to pay for a new alternator, so I proceeded as follows: Without removing the alternator, I extracted the fluffy reminants of the rag, blew out with compressed air and used a needle-nosed pliers to straighten the rather flexible metal alternator cooling vanes the best I could. By all accounts everything seems to be working okay--dashboard gauge shows system is charging, no cooling vanes rubbing alternator housing, no noticable noises or vibrations. Anything I should continue to monitor besides gauge and alternator visuals? Disaster waiting to happen?
