Wheels and Tires

Vehicle Information: Model: 996 C2; Year: 2003; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 21600;

Time again to replace my rear tires. Looks like I'll get almost 9,000 miles on the current ones which is better than the 8,000 on the previous set. I'm running the Pirelli PZeros. On the front 225/40ZR18 & rear is 285/30ZR18. Rear tire wear is an issue along with a harsh ride. Since I only use my car on the street and no track, could I go to a higher profile tire in the rear? Say a 275/40 or 285/40? My suspension is stock and not modified. My goals are to: 1.)raise the rear slightly without lowering the front end. 2.)improve the ride without giving up a lot of performance. 3.)allow me to go to another brand which might extend mileage. I've thought about spacers, but not convinced yet that the "looks" would be worth it. As always, would appreicate your professional opinion.
