In response to a recent question on the height of the roll bars in a 2003 Carrera Cab, an article in the February / March 2005 Christophorus (page 40) gave a figure of 215 mm (8.5 inches) with the top up and 225 mm (9 inches) with the top down. I'm assuming that this is measured from the top of the enclosure that covers the bars, when they are retracted, but the article is not that specific. Our region (Lone Star) DE Handbook states that "any make of car delivered with factory-installed roll over protection meets the minimum standards for PCA DE events." This is a direct quote from page 2 of the PCA DE Guidelines at http://www.pca.org/members/library/PCA_DE_Guidelines.pdf. On this basis, our Region accepts that the factory-installed retracted roll bars are sufficient for DE purposes. It is only in the case of a supplementary roll bar that the "broomstick" test (drivers helmet below a line from the top of the windshield to the top of the roll bar) is required.I have not seen the "two inch" rule before, and the need to comply with this requirement (or any measurement) on Porsches with factory installed roll bars seems to go beyond the PCA DE requirement.
