2003 996 N-Codes

Wheels and Tires

Vehicle Information: Model: 996; Year: 2003; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 17,000;

Ill need new tires soon, and most likely will simply replace my original ones with the same brand, model, and size. I couldn't find the answer to my question after a [tire codes] search under "wheels and tires." I am asking this question in this forum, rather than the turbo, because I think the question, and the answer, has a broader interest. If I simply order or walk into any tire store and buy (as a specific example citing my original equipment front tires) Pirelli Asimmetrico 225/40 ZR 18's, will they automatically, without exception, have the N-code, or is this something I need to specify in addition to the brand, model, and size? Maybe I am incorrect in thinking that tires that fit Porsches also could be used on other makes of cars and that, therefore, having the (irrelevant) N-code on tires not bought for a Porsche could cause confusion.Finally and just out of general curiosity - do other (high performance) auto manufacturers have similar arrangements with tire manufacturers for their own approved tire codes?Thanks for all of your help. I learn something interesting every time I receive your responses to members questions.
