2003 996 noise at warm-up

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model: 996 C4S; Year: 2003; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 25,000;

After start-up, once the temperature reaches ~180 degrees, the first time I stop with the car at idle (e.g. stop light), I get a noise that sounds like a valve opening or some sort of hydraulic mechanism for about 3 seconds. It only happens once from a cold start. If I restart a short time later and the engine is still warm, say 100 degrees, it doesn't happen. I have no performance issues. I didn't have this noise for the first four years I owned the car -- just want to be sure it isn't an indicator of something that needs to be corrected before a more serious problem develops.
