2004 996 RMS

Vehicle Information: Model: 911; Year: 2004; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 7100;

I am very confused, sorry, but if a car has a RMS seal problem, after warrenty, does the engine need to be replaced, or is it just the RMS. Also if it is the RMS only, generally when does this happen and how often does it need to be replaced, as a general rule. I know every car is different. I ask because I really do not want to sell the car, but if I am looking at an engine replacement, if seem the the smart thing to do is not to own a 996 out of warrenty.
